It’s March 18, 2020, and a friend has just left from visiting. We stayed six feet apart, and shortly I will get up and disinfect the areas where he walked and sat. We didn’t touch or share anything while he was here. I realize that we didn’t even offer him a beverage, which is unusual and somewhat rude. But these are different times, and physical distancing needs a new manners book, I suppose.
But before I can do anything, I must sit and capture the feelings I’m having. My emotions are running a strange gambit from depression to joy with a peculiar and poignant sense of both foreboding and hope.
The world, the entire planet, is on lockdown. Many countries and states within America are in a “shelter in place” mode. It’s hard to wrap our heads around. Lately, our phones are blowing up continually with updates about Covie-19. For us, my husband and myself, it’s just been three days. And I went to the grocery store on the first day. At first, we got told to stay home because we are both “elders,” and we thought it would be a two-week homestay. Over the past few days, local government decrees have stretched this out to perhaps the end of April. The City of Seward, Alaska, has suspended all public meetings till April 24, 2020. All the restaurants and bars are closed until at least the end of March. Life has taken on a surreal quality that’s difficult to process.
Our friend shared a bit of information about this pandemic that knocked us off our chairs. We’ve all heard the reports that a vaccine might take 18 months to get developed. But there’s another 18-month story that slipped past us. According to the scientific community, strict containment measures could need to be in place for the next 18 months!
My immediate response was, “Well, we’re not going to sustain being in quarantine for 18-months.” He just stared at me and replied, “but what if that’s what it has to take?” With those few words, the world suddenly tilted.
Even the 2 to 4 weeks or 4 to 8 weeks we were looking at before this person arrived on our doorstep today would cause an “end of the world as we know it” scenario. The notion of a year and a half of pandemic-fighting takes things to a level I don’t think we can even imagine.
Our friend was quick to imagine short term looting and terror in the streets. But the next words out of his mouth shocked me and filled me with joy at the same time:
Here’s what he said: “But when it’s over, look at what we’ll have! We will all vote by mail; we’ll have access to telemedicine, we’ll have Medicare for all, we’ll have learned how to grow our food, we’ll be in a much better place!” I tend to agree with him. I can imagine we’ll also have tele-education as well as a whole new way of virtual shopping experiences. Most important, we will have a new way of governance and have gotten control of capitalism. We are genuinely creative beings, after all, and don’t need money if we were to understand our innate capabilities. I’ve been talking and writing about this for years. Everyone always stares at me blankly when I talk about this. We’ll be talking about a lot in the coming days, though, I promise you!
While this pandemic has been slowly progressing, I’ve had the sense that things would return to normal shortly. We operate a beautiful lodging business on the shores of Resurrection Bay, and we’re about 50% sold out for the summer already. I’d been blithely thinking things would be recovered by mid-May or early June at the latest. The past week we’ve been processing cancelations, mostly what I would call “fear” cancellations. The past few days, we’ve had cancellations from customers who can’t get flights, or their cruise has gotten canceled. Some of the cruises were scheduled for July!
Suddenly it hit me. There is a pit of worry in my stomach, no doubt. At the same time, a part of me was beginning to vibrate with joy.
This situation is and will mark the end of the world as we know it. But that doesn’t have to be a bad thing! It can be a perfect thing if we approach it with the right attitude!
Unless you’re a part of the 1%, we’ve known things aren’t working for us for some time. All the signs have been here for quite a while. Years. Many years if we will be honest with each other. Humans are creatures of comfort, we resist change, and we avoid discomfort. Yet little is gained with little effort, and we have lost more than we have gained over the years.
What a fantastic opportunity this pandemic gives us. A global reset, a universal reset, a complete reboot. No one will go untouched, not even the 1%. Even if you don’t know someone who gets sick and dies, the impacts of this pandemic will touch everyone on this planet. Without meaning to sound harsh, what better way to bring about oneness than through the total destruction of how things are now? We’re terribly divided or have been up till now.
We are one. May the crisis of this pandemic bring us together in the most perfect and beautiful ways.
For those of you reading this to whom the idea of oneness is new, rest assured this is the most significant comfort you can learn about in the coming days. There is an unlimited wellspring of love bubbling up all around you. I’m going to guess based on my intuition that every community on Earth contains at least one, perhaps many “oneness scholars” who have been living their lives learning about oneness themselves and serving from their hearts.
I won’t say I’ve been waiting for this day to arrive all my life, but in a genuine sense, I have. I know others as well, including our friend today who said: “I’ve always known something like this was coming, I just didn’t know what it would be or if it would happen in my lifetime, but I could always feel it coming.”
I’m not talking about people that are referred to as “preppers” or “doomsday preppers,” although those folks are likely in good shape and well prepared for this pandemic. Those folks prepped out of fear of what’s coming. As I understand it, they are ready for a doom-like experience.
I’m talking about “awakening preppers,” which is an entirely different group of people. This group of people knows and understands our oneness. Many people walk this planet, knowing that we are in a land of illusions. The truth is that there is a fabric of unity and cooperation. The truth is that we are each connected to the source of our origin. The truth is that joy is the intended experience for everyone. We have wandered far off the script of creating heaven on Earth, which is why we are all here. These are the people who know the way to oneness and healing.
All of these people are watching the events of recent days and are realizing their time has come. When the whole world falls apart, there is only one way to respond. We respond with love.
Welcome to the New World. Look around your community for the helpers and visionaries, the “lovers” if you will. They are everywhere, and they will help lead the way to the New World.
While our churches may provide some solace during these trying times, it will be your spirituality that gets you through this. Spirituality connects to Universal Love, not any one religion. Do not become confused.
